Prince Street between Thompson and Sullivan

I was walking through SoHo looking for a block to write about when this one struck me for how many different nations could be represented in the restaurants on just one Manhattan street.

New York may be a city where pretty much anything is available, but the same also seems to be true in each of its neighborhoods, and probably within any five block radius for that matter.

To start with, here's some Japanese food:

And there's an Italian trattoria:

And another Italian restaurant, this one with specifically Sicilian offerings:

Then there's Spice, which has Thai food (sorry this shot only shows the Spice flag outside the restaurant, but at least it also shows some more of the block):

There's also Raoul's (I believe Restaurant Francais roughly translates to "French Restaurant"):

And finally there's The Dutch, which actually turns out to serve American food, but still, it's called The Dutch!

To wrap up the international theme, there's SoHo News International on the Sullivan Street corner:

This block also offers shops for a range of classes. There's a deli for the common working people:

And more high-end offerings, like handcrafted chocolates:

And a handcrafted lipstick store:

Wow, handcrafted chocolate and handcrafted lipstick on the same block. Hey, what about handcrafted chocolate lipstick? Did I just invent something?

Let's check out what else is on this block:

No one seemed to be there at that moment. I guess the psychic already knew that I wasn't interested. Wow, she's good.

It's a complicated doorway, and no one understands it but its woman.

For those interested in fire escapes, this block has them in a wide variety of colors:

Here's more fire escapes on the other side of the street. This block has them all over!

While SoHo has many high-end art galleries, there is a non-profit gallery on this block, called Ward-Nasse Gallery, that is run by artists:

Pretty cool.

In some ways this is a rather ordinary block in lower Manhattan, with no skyscrapers or big tourist attractions. But that's remarkable in itself: that I could stumble onto a random block and find so much, in such variety. All it needs now is a bank and a Duane Reade and it will be complete.
